Nowadays being an entrepreneur is the way to go for people who realize working for others is no longer a life suited for them but, as we all know to be an entrepreneuHER building your dreams comes with a lot so that’s why I decided to do a blog post about entrepreneuHERship with no other than best selling author, podcaster and founder of CEO GIRL Ronne Brown.
1. Hi Ronne, Can you Tell us what GIRL CEO is about?
Girl CEO is a community for women entrepreneurs who are looking to grow their business. We focus on empowering and educating women through our courses which are based on the journey that I have taken to get to where I am with Girl CEO. I use my personal experiences to build our monthly masterclasses which give our students a more personal insight on how they can change the course of their business.
2. As entrepreneurs we come up with so many business ideas, How Did You Know When You Had The Right Idea?
I didn’t know. That's the beauty of it. Girl CEO wasn’t just created overnight. It started small, and with a totally different name. Originally I started High Heels High Goals which was a group of myself and my close friends. We wanted a space where we could share our stories and motivate each other to reach our goals. Eventually, we began doing mentorships and sponsoring other women who had the same dreams that we had and it just continued to grow. I saw that the bigger picture was to help motivate and teach women who are in similar situations that I was once in.
3. Before creating GIRL CEO what was your occupation?
Before Girl CEO I worked in legal services. The typical corporate 9-5 that got me by. I was never happy and was always looking for something else to make some extra cash to help me raise my growing family. I also owned a salon, made candles, and did makeup. I was constantly hustling to find my niche. I even joined a network marketing company to help people grow their businesses. You name it, and I’ve probably done it. But the great thing about that is, all of those jobs allowed me to see the true vision that I had and gave me the means to create it.
4. Can you Walk us through the step-by-step process that you went through to get to where you are today? What was the first thing you did?
The first thing I did was fail. I had to fail in order to see that I wasn’t on the right path. Every failure led me to a new idea. When I opened my salon and was selling candles it was great but it wasn’t the success I was looking for. I was running myself ragged just to make ends meet. It was the same scenario with my corporate job. It wasn’t enough. So two failures later and I found network marketing. I joined a company I believed in and ran with it. I utilized social media and found that it was the gateway to reaching anyone and everyone. I did really well but I always had a vision of doing something bigger. That's when I started High Heels High Goals with my friends. We thought it would be a great way to share our stories and motivate women. When people started reaching out and we started sponsoring, that’s when the lightbulb came on for me. This is what I felt passionate about and now I finally had my vision. I kept working to grow High Heels High Goals and eventually, we reached women all over the US. That's when I came up with the idea for Girl CEO. I continued to utilize Instagram because that platform had shown me the most success. It felt more personal and I think that resonated with people. I continued to have hundreds of people reach out to me and ask about mentoring them. I knew that I couldn’t physically go to each and every one of them because they were all over the country so here’s where lightbulb number two came on. I realized that my story was actually helping people be more successful in their businesses so I decided to come up with my online program. I used my personal experiences, my failures, my tips, and tricks, to create a community that educates women how to grow their business. If I can help people encounter one less failure on their road to success by sharing what I did, then it would all be worth it.
5. As we all know to accomplish great things comes with having a good team behind you. How did you go about building your team? Building a team can be difficult. You have to be able to trust that your team sees the same vision that you see. If they don’t, you can’t work with them. I started with a small team at first. People who I had worked with in the past and knew what my vision was. I did research to find others. I wanted people who were one step ahead of the game. Research is KEY. Know who you are hiring. Honestly, finding a great team comes with a lot of trial and error, but without the error, I wouldn’t have the fantastic team that I have today!
6. As a mom of four, how has been an entrepreneur affected your family life? Honestly, I have involved my family in the process 100%. You will see my kids on my Instagram sporting my Girl CEO apparel, talking about being an entrepreneur and setting their own goals. I think involving my children in this journey with me is what has made us stronger. We work together to build this brand and they see my vision. They see how hard I work so they want to do the same.
7. How Did You Handle Adversity And Doubt?
You will ALWAYS have people who doubt you. There is no going around that. I’ve had people send me rude emails and comment negative things on my Instagram posts. To be honest with you, I laugh and then block them. I don’t have time for hatred and doubt. I have 159k followers who look forward to learning something new from the page every day. That 1 person who feels the need to be hateful doesn’t have room on my page. I am there to motivate, inspire, and empower women, so the haters won’t stop me.
8. Did you experience failures? if so what did you learn from them?
Absolutely. If you haven’t experienced failure, then you probably haven’t grown. Every failure that I have encountered has led me closer to Girl CEO. Without my failures, I might still be selling candles out of my salon wishing I had something more.
9. What is your favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur?
My favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur would have to be having the freedom to take your business wherever you feel like it needs to go. No limits, no boss, no regulations, and most importantly being able to share everything with my children. I can be myself and fulfill my vision.
10. If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting, what would it be?
Don’t be afraid of failure. When you are afraid of failing, you don’t reach your full potential. Take risks and go all-in with your heart. If you fail, that just means you’re one step closer to your true purpose.
