July 27, 1993, in Winston-Salem, NC
2. Where do you reside?
Brooklyn, NY
3. What age did you start to sing and why opera?
17 years old because I wanted to get into music school, and many schools require you to study an instrument to earn your degree, so I chose to study classical voice.
4. What is music to you?
Music is a combination of sounds that tell a story or serve a purpose.
5. I see your favorite artist is Janelle Monae. What is your favorite song from her?

6. Who is your biggest inspiration in life?
I am inspired by all the artists in the world who are striving to create works that are meaningful and uplifting in one way or another.
7. Words you live by?
Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen. – Hebrews 11:1
8. Do you speak any languages other than English? No, but I can sing in French, Italian, Spanish, and German.
9. What age did you start doing pageants and why?
I started doing pageants at 19 years old to earn scholarship money.
10. How does it feel to win without having to do the swimsuit competition?
It feels as though I have been judged on my character, and not just on how I look. It’s an honor to be the first Miss America who won without being required to wear a swimsuit.
11. Since you’ve been crowned Miss America 2019 do people stop you on the street?
Occasionally.
12. Last but not least what is your goal as Miss America 2019?
My goal is to help people see the Miss America program for what it is – an organization dedicated to helping young women build themselves up in a world that at times tears us down.
